Playing
Whatever kind of puzzle you like: the games on the home page are grouped by kind, from grid logic and paths to numbers, shapes and geography. Not sure? Crowns, Sudoku and Minesweeper are good first picks, and every game's Easy practice is a gentle way in.
At midnight your time. Daily puzzles are easiest on Monday and Tuesday and hardest on Friday and Saturday.
The daily puzzle is the same for everyone, one a day: it keeps your streak going and counts for the leaderboards and the week's points. Practice is as many puzzles as you like, at Easy, Medium, Hard or Expert.
Not blindly. If a logic puzzle seems to need a guess, there's a step you haven't spotted yet, and a hint will show it, or how far to go back from a dead end. In a few games guessing is the point, like cracking the code in Pegs or naming countries in the geography puzzles, and every guess tells you something new.
A little. Each hint takes a share off the experience the puzzle earns, a daily puzzle solved without hints earns more of the week's points, and anyone can hide solves that used hints on the leaderboards.
Streaks and levels
Your streak counts the days in a row you finish the daily puzzle in every one of your games: the ones you've starred, or else the ones you've played lately. Solved or lost, a finished puzzle counts. The flame at the top shows how many of them are done today.
Every 7 days in a row earn you a freeze, and you can hold 2. If you miss a day, a freeze covers it by itself, so your streak carries on. Miss more days than you have freezes, and it starts again.
Each game has its own level. Every puzzle you solve earns experience: harder ones earn more, a daily puzzle half as much again as practice at its level, and hints take a share off. A lost puzzle earns nothing, and levels never go down.
Leaderboards and friends
Leaderboards show players with an account, so sign in to take your place: what you've played on this device comes with you. A time too fast to be real isn't ranked, and while hints are hidden, solves that used them don't show.
Send someone your link from the Friends page: once they open it and add you, you'll see each other on every board. A group has one invite link for everyone, its own boards and a table every week. Both need a free account.
Every daily puzzle you solve earns up to 100 points: 50 for solving it, 20 more without hints, and up to 30 for speed, by how many players you beat. Medium days count a quarter more, hard days half as much again. A new week starts every Monday.
