Halves
Half suns, half moons in every row and column, never three alike in a row. = means the same, × means different.
A new Halves puzzle every day
Everyone gets the same Halves puzzle each day, and a new one arrives at midnight your time. Monday and Tuesday are easy, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday are medium, and Friday and Saturday are the hardest of the week, on 6×6 and 8×8 boards.
Solve it on consecutive days to build a streak, then share your time. A shared result shows your time and how many hints you used, never the solution. It has exactly one solution, and you can reach it by logic alone, with no guessing.
How to play Halves
- Fill every cell with a sun or a moon.
- Every row and every column holds as many suns as moons.
- No more than two of the same piece can sit next to each other in a row or column.
- An = between two cells means they hold the same piece. A × means they hold different pieces.
Tap a cell once for a sun, again for a moon, and once more to clear it. The gray cells start filled in and stay that way. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys to move, S for a sun, M for a moon, Backspace to clear and Ctrl+Z to undo.
Solving tips
- Follow the signs. Next to a filled cell, an = copies its piece and a × flips it.
- Block the ends of a pair. Two suns side by side mean the cells just before and after them are moons. A cell between two suns is a moon too.
- Count. Once a row has all its suns, the rest of it is moons.
- Think about what's left. When a line needs just one more moon, try it in each empty spot. If most spots would leave three suns in a row, the moon has only one place to go.
